The Category A training is required to operate motorboats on Swiss waters with an engine power of 6 kW or more (4.4 kW on Lake Constance).

Our motorboat school on Lake Zurich supports you in all matters—from the theory test to successfully passing the practical motorboat exam. Our back office also handles the organization of the exam and all formalities with the shipping authority. A learner’s permit is not required.

As part of our intensive course, you will complete 10 lessons (a total of 20 hours) on consecutive days. This compact format allows for targeted and efficient preparation for the practical exam in a short period of time.

If you have passed the theory test before the course, we can schedule the practical exam immediately after the intensive course.

All our motorboat instructors speak English and are very experienced in conducting lessons in English. 

The theory exam can also be taken in English, and we can recommend you an app to prepare yourself which includes the original exam questions in English. You can find it here

For the practical exam, you have to be able to unterstand simple instructions and answer simple questions in English. We will coach you on what to expect.

Our extensively revised 2025 training booklet (73 pages) is specifically tailored to our curriculum and the practical exam. All exam maneuvers and questions are described in detail and presented in a clear, graphical format.
The chapters include practical tips on boat handling drawn from our instructors’ many years of experience, as well as comprehension questions for self-assessment. This allows you to prepare and review your practical lessons at home and get ready for the practical exam in a safe and efficient way.
